A Personal Path to Dentistry

A woman posing in front of an imposing classical building with a large central dome, set against a clear sky.

Dr. Liu's path to dentistry began in the dental chair. After a traumatic dental injury from a scooter accident in college, she spent considerable time having the damage to her teeth and jaw restored, an experience that gave her a firsthand understanding of what it feels like to be the anxious, vulnerable person in the chair.

That experience shaped the dentist she is today. Having had her own smile restored, Dr. Liu finds real fulfillment in doing the same for her patients, especially those who have endured dental trauma of their own. She remembers what it is like to be unsure about treatment, and it shows in how she practices: with empathy, patience, and understanding for everyone who sits in her chair.

Education & Training

The image shows a historical marker commemorating the establishment of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1840, highlighting its significance as the first dental college in the world and mentioning notable figures associated with the institution.

Dr. Liu earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Maryland, where she graduated magna cum laude at the top of her dental school class. Among her honors, she received the International Congress of Oral Implantologists' Predoctoral Student Award for her graduating class.

She went on to complete a general practice residency at the Pittsburgh VA, gaining advanced training in endodontic therapy (root canals), oral and maxillofacial surgery, and implant dentistry. A firm believer that great dentistry requires lifelong learning, she is currently working toward her Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) Fellowship, a distinction that requires 500 hours of continuing education.

How She Cares for Patients

For Dr. Liu, good dentistry starts with a conversation. She takes time to understand what each patient wants to preserve, improve, or avoid, then explains the options in plain language so decisions can be made without pressure and with realistic expectations. Complex treatment is broken into manageable steps, and she is careful to explain what to expect at each visit. Her advanced training in restorative care, root canal therapy, and implant dentistry pairs naturally with the practice's investment in modern technology, digital scanning and 3D imaging help her plan treatment precisely and help patients see and understand their care before it begins.

Beyond the Office

When she isn't caring for patients, Dr. Liu enjoys rock climbing, traveling, and discovering new restaurants. She also loves experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new recipes, and she has a soft spot for the challenge of solving a good puzzle or mystery.
